Happy 8th birthday to Princess cow! 💚 🐄 💚
Princess came to Farm Sanctuary earlier this year after her human friend Ali convinced the dairy that Princess grew up on to let her live out her retirement years at our New York shelter.
Ali and Princess grew up together: they met when Princess was just eight months old, during Ali’s freshman year of college. During winter break, Ali and her mom would visit a nearby dairy farm, strolling the grounds and interacting with the cows--Princess in particular.
Ali was so moved by her new friends that she changed her major to animal science and began studying mastitis--a painful inflammatory condition that can decrease and contaminate a cow’s milk supply--in the hopes of helping cows everywhere.
After doing research on several dairies and spending more time with her BBB (best bovine bud) Princess, Ali made another discovery: "While studying genetic engineering for my thesis work, I concluded that true change in the lives of dairy cows won’t happen by making incremental changes in therapeutics for them to continue in the industry. Rather, research must be done to replace animals used for food production with other, non-animal alternatives." Join us in raising a glass of plant-based milk in honor of Princess, Ali, and compassionate, life-changing friendships everywhere. #LongLivePrincess
