These tutorials are to highlight what I’ve noticed and experienced myself in class as a teacher and student of yoga. We all have ego and until we learn about our body and wise mind it’s only natural that we listen to it. But once we know there’s another way it’s our choice to make
👹 What is ego and how does show up onandoffthemat ?
On the mat :- Ego is that urge you have to push deeper, harder and further into a pose despite knowing that it isn’t for the best reasons. It’s the urge that has you looking around the yoga class to eye up the other practitioners measuring up your journey to theirs 😏
Off the mat:- Ego shows up in similar ways usually driven by criticising yourself, comparison, the ideal of perfection, wanting to be the best, and the need to achieve to feel valued or worthy. This is my experience with ego anyway - can you relate? .
🧘🏻♀️What do I mean by Alignment onandoff the mat?
On the mat :- the alignment of body maintaining the poses purpose and intention whilst keeping the body safe. E.g. not forcing or pushing or if your a bendy human not going into the very deepest posture
Off the mat:- I believe living with alignment means to live aligned to your values of life. Living in a way you believe to be right from your heart not your head. Living a life that YOU understand, enjoy, brings you no harm, that is kind and your physical, and emotional needs are being met - basically living your truth .
These are a comparison of how the bodyandmind interrupt ego and alignment.
Ego picture: 😈
- the body is being forced and pushed - the mind is wandering and critiquing - there is little kindness - the focus is on the outward glory not inner experience
Alignment picture: 🧘🏻♀️
- the body is in balance
- the mind is calm - there is more enjoyment - the focus is inwards .
