Along with all that, you are supposed to take care of your health by staying on top of things like:

▪️Sleeping 7-8 Hours Per Day
▪️Preparing Meals
▪️Eating Enough Fruits & Veggies
▪️Drinking Enough Water
▪️Etc.

There should be no surprise that we feel overwhelmed trying to balance all of these!

When motivated, we try to accomplish everything all at once. When we aren't, we often throw in the towel and do nothing.

I recently re-read a book called Atomic Habits by @james_clear (highly recommended).

A quote I loved: "Goals are good for setting a direction, but systems are best for making progress."

You see, it’s so incredibly important to have systems & habits in place to help organize your actions and better attack your day.

Our bodies are not mostly composed of fat, they're mostly composed of water. Therefore, most of the weight changes we see from day to day are water changes, not fat changes.

A few reasons you see fluctuations on the scale:
.
▪️Recent increase in cardio (increases blood volume). This is a biggie, can add up to 5 lbs in some people, just plasma + new red blood cells, & can cause a month-long stall in scale weight.
▪️Recent increase in weight-lifting (sore muscles retain water) eventually there will also be muscle gain, though that is a slower process (weeks)
▪️Any soreness, injury or bruising (causes inflammation = local water retention)
▪️Illness (ditto)
▪️Change in timing of dinner to a later time than usual, and/or addition of a late night snack even if you ate the same total number of daily calories. The timing alone has an effect. Later eating means that the gut will still be holding “gut water” used in the digestive process during the next morning’s weigh-in. Even a 1 hr later dinner time can affect scale weight the next morning
▪️Single unusually large meal within past 5 days - large meals take multiple days to digest, during which not only the meal itself, but also a mass of water equivalent to ~2x the meal’s weight, will all be parked in your gut for digestion.
▪️Eating more carbs after a period of not having had many carbs (causes liver & muscles to increase glycogen stores each 1g of glycogen is structurally packaged with 4g water so you end up with water weight)
▪️change in dietary fiber (affects “poop weight”)
▪️change in pooping frequency (obvious reasons)
▪️Recent exposure to heat (hot yoga, exercising in heat)
▪️ Menstrual cycle / birth control - about 1/3 of women have noticeable swings in weight during the week before menstruation / week of menstruation.
▪️increase in sodium intake

In short, trust your calorie deficit. If you are tracking your food accurately and are really eating at a caloric deficit, there is no way NOT to be losing fat. The fat loss is just hidden on the scale by the myriad causes of fluctuations in water & digestive waste.

I have to say, very little beats tucking into some perfectly crisp potatoes! 😋Potatoes have gotten such a bad rep, but did you know that the actual potatoe is actually extremely nutrient dense, and the reason why it is often associated with being high in calories is because if the way that people cook it?! 🥔 ( ie deep frying, adding lots of butter etc) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I absolutely love my version of French fries, and make it atleast twice a week!!🤩

👈 On the left we have 100g commercially bought deep fried French fries that are high in trans fats, sodium, and have very little nutritional quality! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👉On the right we have 200g plain slice potatoes ( with skin on for extra fiber boost) that has been sprayed with oil spray ( I use avocado) and placed in the air fryer OR oven ( 180 degrees for 15 mins or until golden brown). I also like to top mine off with some sea salt and rosemary for extra flavor but you can top it off with whatever toppings preferred!

Low carb diets of some variety have been around for the past few decades. Most of them have similar principles just packaged under a different name:

-Atkins
-Low carb, high fat
-Dukan diet
-South Beach Diet
-Keto
.
And the list goes on!
.
But how do they work and should we even be following them?
.
Well firstly they restrict an entire food group that’s a main energy source for our body: carbohydrates🍎🍞🍠🍚🍯.
.
And when you remove an energy source to the degree that these diets do you generally create an energy deficit which results in weight loss and also water loss as each gram of glucose stored within the body is attached to 2-3 water molecules.
.
Seems great, right?!

Not so fast...
.
Cutting carbs can lead to a few nasty side effects including (but not limited to):
.
🔺Poor concentration🤔: the brain relies on glucose for fuel and a limited source can lead to reduced productivity and performance for higher thinking tasks
.
🔺Changes in mood😭: low carb may equal less happy hormones. This is because carbs help the amino acid tryptophan cross the blood-brain barrier where it can be converted to serotonin, one of many hormones which helps balance our mood.
.
🔺Reduced physical performance🥵: prepare for your workouts to suffer🏃‍♀️➡️🚶‍♀️
.
🔺Hormonal complications😬: if you’re female too few carbs can lead to a cascade of effects including low insulin, low leptin, higher cortisol and ultimately HPA dysregulation. A fancy way of saying hormone imbalance. Drop carbs/energy intake too low and you may risk losing your period (and no you don’t have to be at a low weight for this to happen).

🔺Low fibre intake👎: incredibly crucial for regular bowel movements💩, and protection against bowel cancer.
.
Conclusion? If you wanna cut carbs, use a knife. There’s no need to exclude them from your diet entirely because there are SO MANY BENEFITS!

Excessive cardio becomes an issue for folks when hours and hours are invested in it because: ⠀

Your appetite gets ramped up 😟
⠀
Your chances of losing muscle are increased 💪👎

Your hard efforts can be ruined in one single snack 🥜🍎

And it’s tough to stick to an intense schedule, especially with everything else you have going on 😣

So, if you want to use cardio as a handy tool to speed up the process… ⠀
⠀
HIIT Cardio (High-Intensity Interval Training) is my favorite for that 🙃
⠀
It’s been shown to burn more body fat, lower the chance of losing muscle, and the best part, you’ll spend less time doing it ✅
⠀
HIIT Workout Example📝
⠀
After a 3-5 minute warm-up of low intensity, you’ll be alternating between:
⠀
Max output (30 seconds)
Moderate output (60 seconds) (active recovery) ⠀
⠀
For the duration of 20 to 30 minutes without stopping in between (this can be much less if you are new to HIIT) 😅
⠀
The treadmill, rowing machine, and bike are great for this method of cardio🏃‍♀️🚣‍♀️🚴‍♂️

End with another 3-5 minute cool down…
⠀
Bonus: You can also do 15 minutes of HIIT and then 15 minutes of steady state cardio 😤
⠀
2 to 3 sessions a week is all you need so it doesn’t interfere with your workouts, and it’s your preference, but I always enjoyed doing HIIT on non-lifting days🏋️‍♀️

And of course, this is not any magic solution — it’s a useful tool that may be a more enjoyable option for you to help stay consistent…

5-DAY WORKOUT SPLIT by @grantgirsky

Before I jump into the workout on the right side (one of my favorites), I want to explain why the body part split on the left probably isn't the best option for you…
-
Often deemed the "Gym Bro Split", the main flaw in this programming is that each muscle group is only trained 1x per week. Research has consistently shown that an increased frequency (training each muscle 2-3x per week) is more effective than just once per week.
-
As you can see on the right side, each muscle group is targeted 2x per week. If you prefer to workout 5 days per week, this is one of my favorite setups.

In case anyone is confused:
-
▪️Upper: All upper body muscles.
▪️Lower: All lower body muscles (aka legs)
▪️Push: Chest, shoulders, triceps
▪️Pull: Back & biceps
▪️Legs: Your legs 😂
▪️Abs: *Can be included in any day.

Remember, this is just an example of a routine someone can follow if they prefer to & can adhere to working out 5 days per week.

If you are newer to lifting weights, a 5-day routine is probably going to be more than you initially need.

With that said, if you are more likely to stick to a 2, 3, or 4-day program, that is absolutely fine as well…everyone is different. Factors like schedule availability, preferences, training age, etc. all play a role in deciding what type of program & how many days per week is best for you.

5-DAY WORKOUT SPLIT by @grantgirsky  - Before I jump into the workout on the right side (one of my favorites), I want to explain why the body part split on the left probably isn't the best option for you… - Often deemed the "Gym Bro Split", the main flaw in this programming is that each muscle group is only trained 1x per week. Research has consistently shown that an increased frequency (training each muscle 2-3x per week) is more effective than just once per week. - As you can see on the right side, each muscle group is targeted 2x per week. If you prefer to workout 5 days per week, this is one of my favorite setups. - In case anyone is confused: - ▪️Upper: All upper body muscles. ▪️Lower: All lower body muscles (aka legs) ▪️Push: Chest, shoulders, triceps ▪️Pull: Back & biceps ▪️Legs: Your legs 😂 ▪️Abs: *Can be included in any day. - Remember, this is just an example of a routine someone can follow if they prefer to & can adhere to working out 5 days per week. - If you are newer to lifting weights, a 5-day routine is probably going to be more than you initially need. - With that said, if you are more likely to stick to a 2, 3, or 4-day program, that is absolutely fine as well…everyone is different. If you are ready to get the best of both worlds, you are going to love this #Peppermint CBD #Latte recipe:

Ingredients:
• ¾ cup of hot coffee
• ¼ cup hot milk
• York Peppermint Patties
• ½ dropper Full Spectrum CBD Tincture (recommendation #TheMassApothecary - #Endoca CBD Oil or Ignite CBD) (Full Spectrum is the best, But if you can not or so not use Full Spectrum, then I recommend #Ignite CBD, Isolate or Nirvana CBD, Broad Spectrum)

Directions:
• Unwrap Peppermint Patties and break into little pieces.

• Heat ½ cup of milk in the microwave for 2-minutes

Most of you might be thinking "that's a poor time to start right before your birthday. You aren't going to be able to enjoy your birthday"

The thing is though I had an amazing birthday! Here is a list of things I had this weekend: pizza, sushi, oreo blizzard, boneless wings, bagel sandwich, and a good amount of beer.

Was it a great weekend calorie wise? Nope
Will I cut my calories this week to make up for it? Nope
Will I feel bad for what I ate this weekend? Nope

There are times that you can let your calories go up, like your birthday. A few hundred extra calories is not going to kill your progress so why stress about it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let yourself have fun and enjoy your time for a day or two. Yesterday I got right back on track but still having one of my favorite meals: baked ziti (with some apple pie for dessert) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not everyday has to be 100% on point. Enjoy these days and get back on track the next day.

Snack for later today 🤩 I am beginning my cut again and this is the perfect snack! I used 1/3 of a medium sized sweet potato 🍠 along with 1 tbsp of almond butter. I baked the sweet potato with a sprinkle of cinnamon for 35 minutes @ 400 degrees. Recipe below 👇⁠
•1 cup coconut pulp from my homemade coconut milk⁠
•2 Tbsp coconut flour⁠
•3 tbps coconut oil⁠
•3 tbsp maple syrup⁠
•1/2 tsp vanilla extract⁠
•1/4 cup Good Mix Foods granola⁠
Directions:⁠
•Whisk together all the ingredients one by one and form small balls from the dough. ⁠
•Melt dark chocolate with 1 tbsp of coconut oil and cover the coconut bites as you like. ⁠
•Freeze for 30 minutes & enjoy

After discussing skin care for #teenagers at depth in our previous post today here we are talking about “MID LIFE SKIN CARE ROUTINE “for the age group 35-50 years .
It’s in these years where most of the accumulated effects of #stress, #hormonalchanges and #nutritional deficiencies start showing up on the #skin 
Skin starts to look dull every few days, oiliness in some areas with dryness in others, #pimples still popping a few days before the monthly cycles, lack of sleep giving you dark circles, hormonal pigmentation and to top them all FINE LINES and #wrinkles.

Little do we understand that all this is the effect of the lack of adequate care in our earlier years that leads to such changes prematurely. None the less “there is no better day than today to have a new beginning “. So here comes what a typical skin care routine for someone in their 30-50 should be aiming at.

AM Routine
This would have a #toner(alcohol free) and a day cream with active ingredients that would help in controlling the uneven skin tone and texture like vitamin c , e , hyaluronic acid in addition to a basic face wash and a good sunscreen repeated every three hourly. 
PM routine
It’s at night that the skin actually renews itself. So addition of  the following would be a great addition.
1.) spot corrector (According to your medical needs- eg skin lightening for pigmented spots, skin plumper for fine lines, bha based for acne prone skin) 
2.) #Serum (vitamin c , hyaluronic based )
3.) #Nightcream with increasing levels of #retinol or vitamin A and a good #moisturiser
Also never forget a dedicated #eyecream ( for fine lines and darkness) and lip care (for lightening And hydration) product as these areas are often neglected and tend to look ignored.

Muchas enfermedades crónicas en el adulto se originan por la exposición a múltiples factores de riesgo ⚠️a lo largo de la vida, algunos de los cuales comienzan ya en el útero o en la primera infancia👶🏻. Dos de esas enfermedades son la obesidad y el síndrome metabólico (SM), las cuales se han convertido en un serio problema de salud pública en nuestro país🇪🇸

El SM es un nombre para un grupo de factores de riesgo que ocurren juntos y aumentan la probabilidad de sufrir arteriopatía coronaria, accidente cerebrovascular y diabetes tipo 2.
Los dos factores de riesgo más importantes son:
✳️Exceso de grasa alrededor de la cintura.
✳️Resistencia a la insulina.
Otros factores son:
⏩Hipertensión arterial
⏩Niveles sanguíneos elevados de triglicéridos.
⏩Bajos niveles sanguíneos de HDL.
⏩Aumento en el riesgo para la coagulación sanguínea
⏩Aumento de los niveles de sustancias en la sangre que son un signo de inflamación en todo el cuerpo
⏩Pequeñas cantidades de una proteína llamada albúmina en la orina
⏩Cambios en las hormonas masculinas, femeninas y del estrés
⏩Falta de ejercicio.

El principal problema del SM radica en que es debida a múltiples factores 🔄de riesgo como un desarrollo fetal o crecimiento en la infancia inadecuados, diversas circunstancias socioeconómicas y de conducta, como por ejemplo la inactividad física.

Diversos estudios muestran como en aquellos sujetos que siguen una dieta mediterránea, la incidencia de SM disminuye. 📍Por dieta mediterránea entendemos que es una dieta saludable, basada en frutas y verduras🍏🍌🥬🥒🌽🍐, cereales integrales, y proteínas🥩 y grasas de calidad🐠.

Además el ejercicio físico 🏃🏻‍♂️regular es, junto con la alimentación adecuada, otra de las medidas que podemos usar para disminuir la prevalencia y su incidencia.

A healthy KFC-inspired recipe for those of you who love fried chicken (myself included!)🍗 Using many herbs and a double flour coating really mimics the taste and texture of KFC’s fried chicken. Check out the recipe below!

Ingredients:
-8 pieces of chicken (choose from breasts, thighs, drumsticks, or wings- I chose all drumsticks for my dish as they are the juiciest)
-2 egg whites
-250 ml sunflower oil (for frying)
-1 1/2 cups flour
-1 tbsp paprika
-1 tbsp kosher salt -2 tsp onion powder
-1 tsp chilli powder
-1 tsp black pepper
-1 tsp brown sugar
-1/2 tsp garlic powder
-1/2 tsp ground allspice
-1/2 tsp dried oregano
-1/2 tsp dried basil

Recipe:
-Heat the oil in a shallow casserole pot (or a frying pan with a high edge) to 170 degrees Celsius. While this heats up, mix together all the spices and flour in a large bowl. Put the egg whites in a separate bowl.
-Dip the chicken pieces in the egg whites, and then transfer them to the flour mixture, pressing the flour into the chicken with your fingers. Do this twice for all the chicken pieces.
-Once the oil is ready, fry the chicken for 7 minutes on either side (14 mins total). Let the chicken rest on a paper towel to drain excess oil and then enjoy!

🔺 NORWEGIAN SALMON WITH CORN PENNE AND BEETS🔻

Ingredients:
- 250g Salmon Fillet
- 70g Corn Penne (raw weight)
- 150g Beets
- 1 tbsp olive oil

Method:
1️⃣ Put the corn penne in a pot with boiling water for 12-13 minutes.
2️⃣ In another pot with boiling water put the beets and let them simmer for 25-30 minutes.
3️⃣ Season the salmon fillet with salt or any other seasonings of your choice.
4️⃣ Put the olive oil in a pan on high heat and place the salmon fillet with the skin side down first and let it cook for about 3-4 minutes.
5️⃣ Flip the salmon and let it cook for another 2-3 minutes.
6️⃣ Remove the salmon and let it rest for 5 minutes. Enjoy!!!

A few reasons you see fluctuations on the scale:

▪️Recent increase in cardio (increases blood volume). This is a biggie, can add up to 5 lbs in some people, just plasma + new red blood cells, & can cause a month-long stall in scale weight.
▪️Recent increase in weight-lifting (sore muscles retain water) eventually there will also be muscle gain, though that is a slower process (weeks)
▪️Any soreness, injury or bruising (causes inflammation = local water retention)
▪️Illness (ditto)
▪️Change in timing of dinner to a later time than usual, and/or addition of a late night snack even if you ate the same total number of daily calories. The timing alone has an effect. Later eating means that the gut will still be holding “gut water” used in the digestive process during the next morning’s weigh-in. Even a 1 hr later dinner time can affect scale weight the next morning
▪️Single unusually large meal within past 5 days - large meals take multiple days to digest, during which not only the meal itself, but also a mass of water equivalent to ~2x the meal’s weight, will all be parked in your gut for digestion.
▪️Eating more carbs after a period of not having had many carbs (causes liver & muscles to increase glycogen stores each 1g of glycogen is structurally packaged with 4g water so you end up with water weight)
▪️change in dietary fiber (affects “poop weight”)
▪️change in pooping frequency (obvious reasons)
▪️Recent exposure to heat (hot yoga, exercising in heat)
▪️ Menstrual cycle / birth control - about 1/3 of women have noticeable swings in weight during the week before menstruation / week of menstruation.

In short, trust your calorie deficit. If you are tracking your food accurately and are really eating at a caloric deficit, there is no way NOT to be losing fat. The fat loss is just hidden on the scale by the myriad causes of fluctuations in water & digestive waste.
